Synergistic effects of D-arginine, D-methionine and D-histidine against <i>Porphyromonas gingivalis</i> biofilms

Porphyromonas gingivalis biofilms are implicated in the pathology of peri-implantitis and periodontitis. In this study, D-arginine (R), D-methionine (M), D-histidine (H), a mixture these D-amino acids (D-AAs) were investigated as an effective therapeutic strategy against P. biofilms. The bacterial growth activity minimum inhibitory concentrations determined for each D-AA, along with effects D-AAs on biofilm development, morphology, structure, extracellular polysaccharides (EPS), cytotoxicity towards commensals, structure. D-AA delayed proliferation gingivalis, changed its membrane decreased thickness integrity, compared individual D-AAs. EPS content increased concentration present study shows that 4 mM RMH, triple mixture, enhanced deleterious without any D-AAs, thus providing new treatment

Utilization of the D-isomers of arginine and histidine by chicks and rats.

Young chicks and rats were fed crystalline amino acid diets deficient in either arginine or histidine, and the growth-promoting capacity of the D-isomers of these two amino acids was examined. D-arginine had no growth-promoting activity in either chicks or rats. D-histidine had minimal growth-promoting activity (about 20%) in chicks and no bio-activity in rats.
